Banteay Meanchey Officials Rejects News About Ill Migrant Workers After Eating Fruits Provided by the Government

Banteay Meanchey: Banteay Meanchey provincial administration has rejected the news report of RFA Khmer that returning Cambodian workers in the border got sick after eating longan and tamarind fruits provided by the government. The provincial administration has released a statement that it is totally a fake news.

The Ministry of Health of the provincial administration says there are no cases of nausea and vomiting after eating longan and tamarind fruits in the center of Teuk Chor High School. At the same time, 13 treatment centers and 22 other quarantine centers did not have any cases of poisoning or nausea.

The statement from the provincial administration stresses, "The Banteay Meanchey provincial administration completely rejects the content of the social media site RFA Khmer, which has been published contrary to the facts, misrepresenting and undermining the Royal Government's efforts to combat and prevent the spread of Covid-19 disease. The Banteay Meanchey Provincial Administration calls on the social media site RFA Khmer to correct the professional, journalistic and dignified information of journalists."

On Friday last week, Prime Minister Hun Sen has provided 4,000 kilograms of longan and tamarind fruits to the frontline workers in the border and were also shared to the migrant workers undergoing quarantine. The fruits were bought by the government from the farmers who were having difficulties in selling their harvests due to the Covid-19 situation in Thailand.
